I love this thread! Here are a couple. "Habit is habit, and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time." ... Mark Twain "Passionate hearts committed to a shared vision can accomplish the impossible." Byrd Bagget The last one is for everyone here at SSC. "You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom." Malcolm X, Malcolm X Speaks, 1965 US black nationalist leader (1925 - 1965) You cannot be at peace until you have your freedom from smoking. Smoking is an addiction and an addict cannot be at peace. Look at smokers around you. Do they truly look relaxed, at peace? Look at their eyes, their facial muscles, their posture. Peaceful? I think not. Ok, I admit the first bit of time after a quit is probably not the most peaceful you've experienced. Mine sure wasn't. :gasp: But in time the peace does come along with the freedom. And both are sweet as nectar. Be at peace and stay smoke-free. I love this thread. There isn't anything quite like inspiration to get the right attitude and perspective. If you don't mind... I will add one myself here. I wish you sunshine on your path and storms to season your journey. I wish you peace in the world in which you live...More I cannot wish you except perhaps love to make all the rest worthwile. - Robert A. "Patience! why, it is the soul of peace; of all the virtues, it is nearest kin to heaven; it makes men look like gods. The best of men that ever wore earth about him was a sufferer,a soft, meek, patient, humble, tranquil spirit; the first true gentleman that ever breathed." Decker Compassion; Compassion is an emotion that is a sense of shared suffering, most often combined with a desire to alleviate or reduce the suffering of another; to show special kindness to those who suffer. Compassion essentially arises through empathy, and is often characterized through actions, wherein a person acting with compassion will seek to aid those they feel compassionate for. Compassionate acts are generally considered those which take into account the suffering of others and attempt to alleviate that suffering as if it were one`s own. In this sense, the various forms of the Golden Rule are clearly based on the concept of compassion. Compassion differs from other forms of helpful or humane behavior in that its focus is primarily on the alleviation of suffering. Acts of kindness which seek primarily to confer benefit rather than relieve existing suffering are better classified as acts of altruism, although, in this sense, compassion itself can be seen as a subset of altruism, it being defined as the type of behavior which seeks to benefit others by reducing their suffering. Great stuff as usual Lainey! I found this one and couldn't pass it up: "Things are more like they are now than they have ever been." -- Gerald Ford It's intended to be humorous, but I see some brilliance there.
