KiwiKeith, You have sparked my interest. I've considered going vegan myself. Seems you have had some nice results. I'm also interested in whether or not you gave up dairy and eggs. I think I would have a really hard time giving up eggs and cheese. ;) Jenn My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $13.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 59 Seconds: 35

KiwiKeith, glad you are getting such good results. Most people that become herbivores do in fact lose weight. I'm with you in hoping that more people will switch their diets & become healthier. Do it for your bodies, do it for the environment (more effective than getting rid of your vehicles) & do it for the animals :) To answer Dupe, there are many different forms of vegetarianism. Some do eat eggs or dairy, or both. Some, like myself eat absolutely no animal products or any product that was made from an animal....no meat, no fish, no eggs, no dairy. If you're interested, do a search of vegetarianism (veganism). There is tons of useful information out there. Congratulations and great suggestions! Perfect timing too. Lots of farmer's markets and fruit stands set up during the summer. The perfect way to find the best produce and fruit, eat until you can't take another bite, and STILL loose weight! KiwiKeith, Good for you! Way to take charge of your health situation. Can you give us a sample of a daily menu for a day? I've never tried vegetarian diet and would be interested in hearing more about it. Do you eat eggs? Great post KiwiKeith! :) My Thai Chi teacher too says that a vegetarian diet would increase our Chi (good energy). I myself cannot eat beans and other hard-to-digest stuffs. So what otherwise can you eat to get your RDA of protein? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 130 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 650 Amount Saved: $130.00 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 3 Mins: 40 Seconds: 36

Hi there, During the course of my quit I gained 25 lbs. I didnt like it at all. But it was great to not be smoking. so apart from the weight I felt the best I have for ages. During a routine blood test the doc discovered I have pre-diabetes. In my case this was not so much due to lifestyle but due to hereditary factors. The sypmtoms of pre-diabetes include, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and excessive weight being stored especially around the waist. this is all scary stuff and of course all point to heart problems ! thankfully I have stopped smoking so that is one danger sign crossed off the list. Apart from prescribed medication, I have started a vegetarian diet, and have stopped adding sugar to anything ! I have also stopped drinking coffee and will only drink green tea. apart from the obvious benefits of lowering cholesterol and blood pressure I have lost.... 15 lbs in 3 weeks. Another great side effect of this vegetarian diet is ENERGY ! boundless amounts of energy. do I feel good ??? what do you think ?? as if the benefits of not smoking were not enough. Its just a shame that I had to be shocked into taking action. Perhaps its an option that others may wish to consider. good luck !!
