I was pretty young when they found out I had high cholesterol. But I fought like tooth and nail to stay off the meds. I tried diet, exercise and quitting smoking. The exercise help some but not enough. The meds, proper diet, exercise and of course quit smoking has done wonders. I get mine from my father's side of the family. Not getting around it. You are doing great on your quit!! Congrats on 27 days. Bresmama, Ouf! No better validation than that. Quitting is really the best thing if you have high cholesterol. Also know that quitting smoking decreases your risk of heart attack and stroke which is closely linked with having high cholesterol. Congrats on 27 days! Keep it up! Hey all...keeping everything on one thread so as to make it easier...plus..I didn't know where this fit in... Thank GOD I have quit smoking...I just got the worst news and I am really so grateful that I quit when I did. My Dr. called on Friday and said that some routine tests that I had done came back positive, and that I have VERY high cholesterol readings, and that my bad cholesterol is very high, and my good cholestrol very low. Given that I am in no way over weight, that I"m only 27, and that I really do eat a pretty healthy diet they feel that this is genetic and recomended starting medication, lowering fat and sodium in my diet, and QUITTING SMOKING. I was SO happy and proud to tell my dr that I already had...27 days ago! I was so upset to find this out, and my still pretty shocked..but I'm so proud that at least quitting smoking isn't another change that I'll have to make..bc I already did it!!!!! Bresmama I wanted to say in addition to Casey's great comments that I personally found that taking deep breaths helps relieve the cravings. It didn't work for me the first few days I quit but after a week I tried it again and it worked real well. BTW, congrats on the quit, your doing fantastic! Bresmama, just the fact that you posted here, first, tells me you don't really want to do it. Do you know, here I am at 78 days, had a whopper of a craving tonight with my first glass of wine as I was sitting down to pay bills, a pile of bills - whew. John was here, I had him crank up Nickelback very loud, I paid bills and quit thinking about smoking. Find something else to do during the moment when you have the crave, I won't tell you some of John's advice :p - but you will find something that works. hang tough with us - if it was easy everybody would do it. It is tough and that makes it so worthwhile. Don't worry. What you are feeling is very common your stage of the quit. Somehow...it starts to be game if we let it. Like.....sneaking a smoke so no one knows. At that point...we lose that the quit is ALL ABOUT US. Who cares what others think. It's our quit...and our succuess. So don't believe the addiction telling you to sneak. Also...after a few weeks the "novalty" begins to wear off a little. You need to renew your commitment and see yourself in that non smoking image you want so badly. After you quit smoking....sky is the limit in things you can do. Also......have you gotton yourself a reward lately? They are so important. Your brain was use to little boosts it got from cigarettes. You still deserve those little boosts/rewards.....except NOT FROM CIGARETTES. You brain will be happier and react the same way with a little reward. Soooo be sure to do that tomorrow. Maybe you could splurge and get yourself an iced coffee...buy a new novel to read... or some pretty bath lotion. Do something nice....Just for you!! You are doing an awesome job and you have been very upbeat and positive. Don't be hard on yourself if you feel a little down or dicouraged. It is normal. This is all the stuff you have to go through to receive a life of freedom. I know you want that kind of life. Try doing something to distract yourself (pop in a movie and munch on some popcorn). Hey everyone..thought that I would keep all of my posts together...I've been doing really well..but I don't know.. I really REALLY want to smoke..and I keep thinking that I could go outside and smoke..and no one would know. But I would know..and so I'm on here writing this post in hopes that it will distract me. I just had a REALLY crappy week..and I don't want to mess up my quit! Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
