Cold Turkey ? - Tell me you secrets

14 years ago 0 1127 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi all,

I quit cold turkey too. I changed my whole life from the first day I quit. Instead of coffee in the morning, I drank tea. Because I never drank tea before my mind had no "link" with tea and a cigaret. I sat in a chair where I never sat before and that also had no "link" with smoking.

I had fun thinking about all the links I had to break and after 4 days I knew I could do it. My way of life is different now and I like this way better. Quitting is the best thing I ever did for myself. I'm proud and happy.

Keep on all quitters, there is hope for all of you.

I quit cold turkey this time also. In the past I have quit using NRT's, only to relapse when I quit using the NRT's. This is probably my 8th quit, I've kind of lost count. The secret to quitting cold turkey??? I don't think it is a secret, you try, if you fail, you pick yourself back up and when your ready you try again. You repeat that process all the while learning new things about quitting and about yourself, until you succeed. Going cold turkey is getting right to it, you know your going to feel horrible, and suffer the full wrath of the nicodemon in a short amount of time, but I feel its better than dragging it out. Just get it over with and be done with it. Someone once told me that when he quit, he knew he was done with smoking. It was just something internal that he felt. My last quit, at 6 month, I was still whining, complaining, and craving, because in my mind  I wasn't done smoking yet, and I relapsed and smoked for another 1 1/2 years. This time, I rarely think of smoking except when I'm here reflecting and empowering myself. This time is the last, I feel it inside of me, I am moving forward and no longer punishing myself and my body. I have forgiven myself for my mistakes, and moved forward. For me smoking was kind of a self made hell I made myself suffer in, I had made so many bad choices when I was young I had felt like I had thrown my life away, and I felt I had shamed my parents, and family. Now at 43, I can finally move on. I think I'll move ahead smoke free.

Still very early in my quit... but I guess what really works is determination.  I have tried several times before and had used the patch, Champix, nicotine gum.... even Cold Turker :o)....  What worked this time is that I was determined to get it done... I was ready.. I did my homework.. I knew my triggers and how to deal with them...  I did use an NRT (still am) and definately relying on all my quit buddies here for support and encouragement.... SSC has been a God send...
Posting and reading and knowing that if I do get a strong urge to smoke... all I have to remember is that my friends here are just at my finger tips... all I have to do is post it....and the support is there...

So, if you are thinking about quitting... go through "my program", use the tools, prepare youself... tell as many people as possible that you are quitting... get your support system in place... and enjoy the ride... It is possible if you want it.
You can do it!!!!

Cold Turkey???

That's something to go between two slices of bread the day after Thanksgiving!!!  That method didn't work for me, but using Chantix (Champix) and utilizing all that this site has to offer is what did it for me!  Also, I prepared and really psyched myself up for this quit!!!  I just had to do it this time before it became too late!!!

You really CAN do it!!!  Jump right in and join all of your new quit buddies here and kick some nico-demon ash!!!

For all you browsers... Stress, Anger, money worries, health problems.... where does it all end ?. Answer - It ends when you've beat the addiction.

Cold Turkey, Nicotine replacement Therapy (NRT - patches, gum etc), it doesn't matter how you do it, you end up at at the same place.

Cold Turkey is sort of misleading. Even those who start their quits using NRT, go cold turkey at some point (if they stop the NRT).

That said, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I reached a point where I felt like smoking had nothing left to teach me.
