Myth or Fact?

Once years ago I thought I could will the pain in a wisdom tooth to go away.
I worked at it for ages and eventually the pain went away.
Later I found out that the pain went away because the nerve had been eaten away
and the tooth had to be pulled, as well as the molar next to it.

I'm thinking there's a similarity between depression and bad teeth.
If you don't deal with the pain bad things will happen.

Your reply got a smile from me wildcat....I think that is what runs through our minds.

I think the hardest part for me was accepting I had a mental illness.  After two years in bed you'd think it would have been obvious - not!  I was getting the meds, I wasn't working on the other stuff!  I quit taking the meds, I mean heck, I was all better, I didn't need those, right?  geez, it didn't take long to figure out that was why I was doing better.  But I do believe we are all courageous each and every day that we face this battle and that will make us stronger to face another day.

Myth: If you have a mental illness, you can will it away. Being treated for a psychiatric disorder means an individual has in some way "failed" or is weak.

Fact: A serious mental illness cannot be willed away. Ignoring the problem does not make it go away, either. It takes courage to seek professional help.
