How do you prevent a panic attack?

6 years ago 0 32 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0

For me deep breathing and positive self talk helps when about to have a panic attack. I also remind myself that if I have an attack they don't last forever. I would love to hear what other people do

Hi Lyndsay,

I am sorry to read you had an attack the other night. I can see how that would make you feel low. It is very normal to feel apprehensive when moving towards exposure. Remember that you decide what you are willing to expose yourself to. If you feel you can't do some parts of your exposure plan yet that is ok. What do you feel you might be able to do? What would be an achievable challenge? What small step can you take now? How can you build your confidence for exposure?

Don't give up! You can do this!

Hi

Really sorry for the late reply, I have only just noticed this message.
I have been up and down since I posted this. I had another attack lastnight and it has left me feeling really low.
I have been working on the program as best I can and am now at the exposure work point of the program. I'm trying my hardest to get through this. I just feel like I can't do it for some reason.

Welcome Lyndsay!

I am sorry to read you are feeling low lately.  My suggestion would be to work on the program. The program will help you to change your thought patterns which will in turn change how you feel. The section on relaxation techniques also would be a good session to start with. Have you had a chance to work on the program? Any questions so far?

Hello to you all. I am new to this forum. I'm feeling quite low and really anxious lately. Had a really bad panic attack lastnight and I'm trying not to have one now. I'm just wondering how you all prevent an attack from coming on when you're having really negative and anxious thoughts and feelings? Would really appreciate any tips for this.
Thank you.
Lyndsay
