Another failed attempt

Don't give up! It took me three tries over a year to finally quit. I also used Chantix this last time and I am FREE from cigarettes for the first time in 25 years. You might want to looking this med. Also, ask your hubby to help you in this effort with his support and not smoking in front of you. Hang in there. If can quit, so can you. Today Is the Day

I too used Chantix to quit 67 days ago and I am FREE! Took me three times but the meds really did it for me. I would follow the directions: don't quit too soon before the Chantix is really working. It was day 12 for me and I never looked back. Watch for the side effects (weird dreams, thristy, etc) but they are way better than smoking. I am starting to taper my Chantix to one a day, then every other day then none. There is alot of stuff on Chantix on this site so just do a search. You will feel great when you quit! Six months free!!!!!

Hard to believe I made it after 20+ years smoking, but I feel great. I can swim and bike like I am floating on air. Food tastes better, skin is less wrinkled, teeth are whiter and I don't stink! But I have two side effects: 1) still occasionally have strange dreams (I used Chantix to quit and that is when they started). Last night I was smoking in my dreams and woke up realizing NO I DID NOT REALLY DO THAT!!! 2) gained about 5-7 lbs even though I am exercising a lot. I think this is a metabolism adjustment and may take a while to correct. I think the whole process goes better the more you exercise so get out there and walk, bike, run, swim . . . anything to get you moving and not thinking about it. Also, it gets those endorphins going and you stay much more relaxed. It is great to be free! Stress

I found exercise was the only thing that got me though the quit!! 200 days into it and I really feel/smell/taste/walk/run (do everything!) so much better. You soon realize how much time and money you wasted while slowly killing yourself. Hang in there!!!!! 230 days and I feel great

It is not a magic number but I FEEL GREAT. Raced my bike last weekend and was flying like never before!!! I don't think about smoking, don't dream about it, don't even remember why I did it. Just truly amazing way to live and feel so alive and free. Oh yes, I did buy myself a new expensive bike and I am lovin' it. Lovin wine, the way food tastes, not being smelly. Why did we ever get hooked on such a dumb habit. All you new quitters: Stay with it as there is a whole new world out there. 230 days and I feel great

Hang in there. I used to think about / dream about cigarettes for several months after I quit. Like you, I was sad and missed them badly at times. Then, it all just started to fade away. Like it was another you in another life that was a smoker. So, stay active, stay positive and it will come. Anybody quit smoking and lose weight?

Smoke (nicotine) speeds up metabolism.  When you stop smoking, your metabolism will slowly (over months) decline and that is why people gain some weight even if they do not change eating habits.  Like you, I exercise a lot but still put on 4 lbs (164 from 160)  after I had quit 4 months.  Still feel so much better, though and I would not EVER think smoking is a good way to loose weight.

My Milage:

My Quit Date: 7/20/2007
Smoke-Free Days: 363
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,445
Amount Saved: $1,089.00
Life Gained:
Days: 67 Hrs: 18 Mins: 27 Seconds: 58

One Full Year!!

It will be ONE YEAR in three days, I am a wee bit early.  What a fantastic change it has been for me.  My fitness and mental attitude are so much improved.  I cannot believe how fast I can ride my bike - like the wind!!!  Food and wine (yes, wine tastes soooooo good) are all better and no more smelly hair and clothes.
Can't say I every really was tempted to relapse, so that is fortunate.  I used Chantix to quit and had few side effects, other that some weird dreams.  Seems some people are having trouble with the product.

So, it is all very worthwhile.  It took me three times to stop so everyone hang in there!
